all monsters and dust

don't be stingy with old day

My sister went to see Coldplay last night. For the past couple of days, her IM name has been trippin cuz im on my way to see coldplay!! That right there should go a long way toward explaining why my sister and I are not that close. (Hint: it's not just the Coldplay part.)

Not that I really have anything against Coldplay. I didn't mean to give that impression. (I don't have anything - much - against my sister either, we just don't have anything - much - in common.) Some of their songs are even pretty good. I listened to a whole half of a concert of theirs when it was broadcast on the radio. Then I got bored because all their songs start to sound the same after a while. I wouldn't pay big bucks to see them, is all I'm saying. Especially at the Bell Centre, where the sound is awful. As Brendan Murphy hilariously put it in last week's Hour:
Tickets to see Coldplay and Black Mountain play August 3 at the Bell Centre start at $57 for general admission and more than $500 for front row tickets. A much cheaper and equally immersive Coldplay experience can be found by reading today's newspaper headlines, buying a black marker and writing "Fair Trade" on your hand, then renting a Gwyneth Paltrow movie.

Someone needs to tell that to the guy who has to learn about Coldplay on his own because others won't share.

"The mind of the thoroughly well informed [person] is a dreadful thing. It is like a bric-a-brac shop, all monsters and dust, and everything priced above its proper value."
