all monsters and dust

My stress level was through the roof just watching this video from the Bike Messenger Race in NYC. It's great!

I love noir-type murder mysteries, and I love interactive art projects, so I LOVE the idea of the pay phone murder mystery. I want to do this so bad!

What could make a salad cooler than croutons in the form of origami cranes?

More men taking wives' last names. I like this, and too bad it's still so far from socially acceptable -- and even viewed by some as a sign of "weakness." Give me a break. Here in Quebec I think the most accepted/expected option is for neither spouse to change their name. Actually, I think in Quebec nowadays most couples don't even bother to get officially married at all.

Yesterday was the first ever 3-way tie on Jeopardy! Unless you count the time when everyone lost, which I don't. This time they all ended up with $16 000! I was watching with my sister and mother and we were all extremely surprised and amused. What happened was that the 2nd and 3rd place contestants were tied at $8 000 and bet everything, and the guy who was leading bet just enough to tie with them: "It was an intentional bet. I counted on Anders and Jamey betting rationally and wagering everything. I thought it would be really cool to be a part of Jeopardy history. I knew that meant I'd be playing seasoned opponents, but it didn't matter to me. I had already won a couple of games myself, and I thought it would be neat to share the money." Basically, instead of winning $16 001 for himself, he let everyone win $16 000. How nice is that?

Ya Ya Chou's chandelier made out of gummy bears is extremely awesome.

Clip from The Office panel at the Paley Festival. "If you don't know a Michael Scott, you are Michael Scott."

A fascinating collection of pictures of all the replicas of 770 Eastern Parkway built by Lubavitchers around the word. The ones in Israel are particularly striking, because the red brick is so alien compared to the surrounding landscape and other buildings. From an interview with the photographers: “I love the one near Tel Aviv, because it’s so accurate and then the backdrop is so sparse,” Becher said. “Of course the Brazilian one is very nice, because it’s so little. It’s just kind of touching somehow.”

I seriously cannot believe I had not seen this video before today.

My favourite replacement cliches: "If you won't shake your bootie, get off the dance floor"; "Everyone gets ice cream!"; "Boot souffle"; "Trying to find a clock in a casino"; "Wants birthday cake on Christmas"; "More fun than 20 yards of bubble wrap"; "No one remembers Ivan the Wonderful"; "Start a whole new batch of sourdough." Look for these to enter my personal lexicon.

"The mind of the thoroughly well informed [person] is a dreadful thing. It is like a bric-a-brac shop, all monsters and dust, and everything priced above its proper value."
